Some nights call for linen napkins and candles.
And some nights just want a big pot of spaghetti, a wooden spoon, and zero stress.
This is one of those recipes I come back to again and again — simple, satisfying, and full of flavor without trying too hard. It’s the kind of meal that feels like home, whether you’re feeding two or setting an extra bowl on the table just in case.
Another thing I love is that it's perfect for a family of four with no left overs or for us empty nesters, dinner for two with left overs for lunch.
Ingredients
-
1 package HEB Whole Wheat Spaghetti
-
1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or mild, casings removed)
-
1 jar Muir Glen Tomato Sauce
-
3 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
Red pepper flakes (optional)
-
Fresh Parmesan cheese, for serving
-
Fresh basil or parsley (optional)
Instructions
-
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the HEB whole wheat spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
-
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
-
Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
-
Pour in the Muir Glen Tomato Sauce, stirring to combine. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
-
Let the sauce simmer gently for 10–15 minutes, allowing all those flavors to cozy up together.
-
Add the cooked spaghetti directly to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
-
Serve warm with freshly grated Parmesan and a sprinkle of herbs if you’re feeling fancy.
A Little Beauty Cafe Note
I love this recipe because it doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not. It’s honest, comforting, and dependable — the kind of meal you make when you want something good without overthinking it.
Whole wheat pasta gives it a little extra substance, the Italian sausage brings the flavor, and the tomato sauce does what it does best: shows up and delivers. HEB offers both mild and spicy Italian sausage.
Serve it with a simple salad, a slice of crusty bread, or just a glass of wine and good conversation. That’s usually enough.
