We opted for a Christmas Brunch this year instead of a traditional Christmas Dinner. JD made the most amazing Quiche Lorraine, and I tested out the French Toast Brioche Casserole that's been all over Instagram this holiday season!! It was a win!!
Ingredients
-
1 loaf brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
-
6 large eggs
-
2 cups whole milk
-
1/2 cup heavy cream
-
1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
-
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
-
Powdered sugar, for dusting
-
Maple syrup, for serving
Instructions
-
Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
-
Cut the brioche bread into 1-inch cubes and spread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
-
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
-
Pour the mixture over the bread cubes, gently pressing down to ensure the bread absorbs the custard. Cover and refrigerate for about 20 minutes (or overnight for extra richness). I made this the night before so it was refrigerated overnight.
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
-
Melt the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl for about 40 seconds. Pour the melted butter evenly over the soaked bread.
-
Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
-
Sprinkle with fresh berries and dust with powdered sugar. Cut into squares and serve warm with maple syrup.
Hosting Tip
Prep this the night before, pop it in the oven while you’re pouring coffee, and enjoy a stress-free morning with something warm, comforting, and absolutely delicious.
